Balancing The Scales

Despite nearly one in five Australians living with disability, the vast majority of infrastructure, products and services are designed with only able-bodied people in mind. This inquiry engages students to investigate disability and inclusion to develop innovative assistive technology that addresses the needs of real people living with a cognitive or physical disability.

STEM Arcade

Term 1 & 2 2020

Program: Design Challenge
Duration: 2 days consecutive

Learning through gaming or play can be a powerful method for understanding difficult concepts. In this design challenge, students will create an arcade game that demonstrates a STEM principle for a younger audience. Students will program custom games, design unique controllers and build cabinets that create an engaging experience for primary school students.

Biodiverse-City

Term 3 & 4 2020

As urban development continues to sprawl further into natural environments, our precious native flora and fauna are displaced and ecosystems destroyed. This inquiry challenges students to rethink our relationship with the natural world, and to develop innovations that transform urban environments into sustainable, symbiotic systems that encourage biodiversity to flourish alongside people.

Human-Animal Interactions

Food & Fibre Innovation

Term 1 – 4 2020

Program: Specialist
Duration: 2 days consecutive

Victoria is Australia’s biggest fibre exporter and Melbourne’s north is home to a major food and beverage manufacturing cluster. In these two design challenges, students will combine technological, social and cultural innovation, and apply principles of sustainable and ethical practice. Using this basis, they will translate their ideas into useful new food and fibre products, processes or services to solve real-world problems for local industry.

Term: 2 (Medical) & 4 (Agricultural)
